MINI Designs One-Off Car For The Royal Wedding
The Royal Wedding will be taking place on May 19, 2018; and the UK, as much as the rest of the world is very much excited to see Prince Harry and Meghan Markle take their vows. Given that this is the British royal wedding we are talking about, things have certainly gone a notch higher in celebrations, and UK-based car maker MINI is also celebrating the holy matrimony is own special way. The automaker has announced that it will be producing an exclusive ‘One-Off’ MINI hatchback specially for the royal wedding.
Speaking about the one-off MINI for the royal couple, Head of MINI Design, Oliver Heilmer said, “As an iconic British brand with almost 60 years of history in the UK, we are pleased to mark the royal wedding with this special charitable gift. The MINI Design team has created a one-off MINI Hatch for the occasion. Its specially designed roof graphic combines with 3D-printed personalised interior and exterior details as well as special embroidery to make this a MINI like no other.”
Based on the MINI 3 Door, the one-off hatchback is as British as it gets, at least in appearance. The car is finished in a crystal white paint scheme with silver blue accent strips. There’s a black band that wraps around the car and features a blue-tinted, matte silver paint finish. The distinctive MINI bits remain as it is on the car including the hexagonal grille; chrome accents around the headlamps and tail lamps, as well as the door handles. The taillights also get a blue-black tinted clear coat, adding a touch sportiness. Keeping things distinctly British is the Union Jack design in the taillights, which are complemented by the dark blue finish alloy wheels.
The most stand out feature though remains the roof graphic on the one-off MINI that is hand-made and 3D printed. The multiple colour graphic has been applied by hand in several layers and brings several elements of the royal couple’s respective national flags – The Union Jack and the Stars and Stripes. Adding a personal touch are the 3D-printed and embellished initials ‘M & H’ placed around the side turn indicators. The car also projects an exclusive ‘Just Married’ projection on to the ground from the front doors.
Inside, the cabin gets satellite grey leather upholstery while the chrome accents gets blue and black tinted clear coat. The first names of the royal couple, along with the wedding date and good wishes to the bride and groom have been added to the large trim strip ahead of the front passenger seat. The trim strips on the door have been inspired from the custom roof graphic on the car. Lastly, the head restraints gets an abstract take on the Union Jack on one side and a Stars & Stripes perforation and stitching on the other.
The one-off MINI hatchback designed to commemorate the special occasion will be donated to one of the couple’s chosen charities – The Children’s HIV Association (CHIVA) for public association. The car will be then auctioned to raise funds for the charity.
